Located on the equator, Laikipia is found in the Great Rift Valley.

The name Laikipia is derived from the Maasai language which means treeless plain. It is a vast plain where different kinds of wildlife, including the Big Five roam freely on the rangelands, a land of high plains, rolling hills straddling the Equator in Kenya between Mount Kenya and the Aberdare Range on the eastern edge of the Great Rift Valley. Its best known for the Ngare Ndare Forest, Ol Pejeta Conservancy, Mount Kenya Wildlife Conservancy, Ol Jogi Wildlife Conservancy and Mugie Ranch.
